RCA Alumni Spotlight Questionnaire
1. What was your professional path after graduating?
My professional path started with the accounting program at SVCC. Accounting seemed like the best choice because I had bookkeeping experience from working at my dad’s car lot. I did well in my accounting classes, but it wasn’t in my heart. Deep down, I wanted to be a nurse, so I changed career paths. I completed the RN program at SVCC and later took my BSN classes at ODU online. I am now Director of Surgical Services at Clinch Valley Health. Surgery is my passion!
2. How did your academic experience guide you in your pursuits and daily life?
My academic experience at RCA went far beyond studying and passing my classes. I learned to keep Jesus first, work hard, respect others, be honest, and stay kind. All these attributes continue to guide my daily life.
3. What was your favorite activity and study subject?
My favorite activity was our Friday field trips, hands down! Whether a day trip to Pigeon Forge, shopping at Mercer Mall, or an outing at Steele Creek Park-I enjoyed that time with friends outside the classroom. Brother Phillip Horton’s Virginia History class was my favorite subject. Brother Phillip and Sister Sharon Roberts both made learning such a fun experience!
4. What is your favorite memory from your time at RCA?
I loved attending our state competitions in Richmond, VA. It was so exciting to meet and compete with students from other Christian Schools. It was hard work, but we also shared lots of laughter!
5. What was your favorite tradition at RCA?
Those Wednesday Chapel services. I remember anointed messages from Brother Ralph Horton and Sister Debbie Roberts that will forever remain in my heart. We had church!
6. What advice would you give current RCA students?
Be grateful for the opportunity to attend RCA. The monthly scripture memories aren’t too hard. The teachers aren’t too strict (I thought so too-I was wrong). The entire experience is helping to prepare you for life…and eternity.
7. Any additional information you would like to be made known about your experience at RCA and the impact on your life.
I am eternally grateful for the positive influence attending RCA made on my life. I learned so much about the Bible, received an excellent Christian education, and made lifelong friendships with the finest people on Earth.
