RCA Alumni Spotlight Questionnaire
1. What was your professional path after graduating?
After graduating from RCA, I went to Bluefield State College and earned my Electrical Engineering degree. I worked as an Electrical Engineer for the first eight years in the coal industry. After leaving the coal industry, I worked as a design engineer, then later as a facilities electrical engineer.
In 2022, I felt the call to become a full-time missionary to Honduras where I am currently working with my wonderful family.
2. How did your academic experience guide you in your pursuits and daily life?
In my career and daily life, I have been able to use many things from my academic experience. The one that sticks out most is the setting of goals. I have found that when I have something that needs to be accomplished, I can set goals and little by little overcome the most challenging obstacles.
3. What was your favorite activity and study subject?
Favorite Activity: PE
Favorite Subject: Math
4. What is your favorite memory from your time at RCA?
Junior/Senior trip to Orlando
5. What was your favorite tradition at RCA?
Cooking a Mexican meal as an extra credit in Spanish with Sis. Brenda Horton.
6. What advice would you give current RCA students?
My advice would be to always give your best effort, and to remember everything has a purpose in life wether you can understand it in that moment or not.
I go back many times to the season of life when a young mountain boy was in Spanish class with no desire to learn. I did not want nor understand why it was important to learn Spanish. Fifteen years later, I wish I had paid better attention and learned more as God has called me to a country where Spanish is the given dialect.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1
7. Any additional information you would like to be made known about your experience at RCA and the impact on your life.
I thank God often for the influence of Godly men and women that had a positive impact on my life. The burden of Bro. Phillip, Bro. Ralph, Sis. Brenda, Sis. Sharon, and many others cannot be truly expressed by words. They had a God given burden to help mold and shape the next generation. My prayer is that I will be able to pass the torch on to the next generation as well.
